Castlevania: Lament of Innocence is an action game released for the Sony Ps2. The game was released and published by Konami.
Castlevania is today one of the oldest games in the industry. The series are known for their intense 2D scrolling camera, its intense difficulty and of course its incredible music. After some few terrible attempts to change the series in a 3D environment, Lament of Innocence is the first installment for the Ps2 console and a new direction for the series. The game is of course in 3D but this time in beautiful graphics that can rightfully represent the incredible illustrations from Ayami Kojima.
Lament of Innocence is the first Castlevania, chronologically speaking. The story takes place in 1094, where you, famous warrior Leon Belmont, are attacked by an army of monsters. You realize that these monsters come from the castle in the "Eternal night" forest and where send by no other than the vampire Walter Bernhard. At the same time, your girlfriend, Sara Trantoul, was kidnapped. However, you manage to rescue her without killing the beast. You decide to put an end to it, but the only way to stop him is by making the famous whip effective which involves a spell where your dearly beloved must die.
Now, the main question that all Castlevania?s fans ask is: How's the game play in 3D' Well the game is well rendered allowing some intense combats with the famous whip as well as some platform sections. The sub-weapons (ax, cross, knife...) are of course usable and very effective to destroy enemies. Monsters have never been some imposing and huge. Plus, with the great music that is as always present, you'll feel completely in the ambience of a classic 2D-Castlevania.
Lament of Innocence is the first 3D Castlevania that is actually worth something and that can be compared to its 2D Predecessors. Konami's has finally been able to bring the elements of previous versions in a whole new environment that makes this game one of the best of the series.
