Crush is a platform/puzzle videogame developed by Zoë Mode and published by Sega. The game was released exclusively for the Sony PSP.
It is rare to see games mix 3D and 2D elements in their gameplay. A few names standout like Super Paper Mario but in the puzzle world, I can't think of any... until now. Here comes Crush, a very original game that will have you playing with perspectives for hours.
Danny is a worried and stressed man. This will lead to him having continuous insomnia. To try to understand where the problem comes from, our protagonist goes to see the mad scientist, Dr. Reuben. To help Danny, he will give him a C.R.U.S.H. (Cognitive Regression Utilizing pSychiatric Heuristics) device which is basically a helmet that puts Danny under hypnosis. In this state, he will need to regain his normal self by collecting his lost marbles and facing his most horrid fears.
In order to recover sanity, he will go through ten levels which consist of elements of his past. As said before, he will need to collect marbles (which give him points) in order to advance to the next level. But the main originality of the game is of course the "crushing" of levels. At any time, you'll be able to pass from the 3D (third person view) to a classic 2D platformer. You'll have to go from one view to another in order to reach certain places hidden or inaccessible in one of the perspectives. You'll also have to fight against some enemies which are easily defeated by throwing blocks at them or changing views.
Crush is particularly original and gives us a new type of gameplay that allows for many complex and diversified puzzles. One of the hidden beauties of the PSP.
