Mirror's Edge is a first person action videogame developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic arts. It will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Every once in a while, a completely original title arrives in the gaming world and completely changes its face. It seems that Mirror's Edge is headed in that direction. With this game, we truly have the impression of entering in an entirely new generation of video games.
In a modern world, the main city is ruled by a totalitarian regime which heavily controls any communication and information transmission. This lead to the appearance of what are called runners. Working in networks, these people are hired to transmit messages from one source to another. However, it is an illegal activity and they better stay away from any kind of government agents. The story follows Faith, a runner, who tries to free her sister held captive by the government.
In this context, Mirror's Edge creates a unique gaming experience. Introducing a new first person type of game, it focuses on the running aspect and the use of the environment. You will be able to use many objects (pipes, walls, ramps) highlighted in red to slide, climb, jump to always keep running in the fastest way possible. With the "Runner Vision", which corresponds to a type of "bullet time", you will go slower to better analyze the situation without losing speed. Mirror's Edge really focuses on this aspect and clearly doesn't want to be referred as a first person shooter. Even if you can use guns, the weapons will slow you down (preventing you to jump further which is necessary to go from one building to another) and the creators stated that the game can be finished without shooting a single bullet. Plus, fighting with your fists is as convenient and way cooler.
Mirror's Edge will change the actual first person genre and introduce a new one. Not only the game is beautiful but it really seems entertaining and will bring new sensations to the world of gaming. The game will be released on November 11th and any gamer should keep an eye out for it as this is the new generation of games!
