Mario Kart Wii is the latest opus of the famous series of racing games of Nintendo featuring Mario and his friends. It was released on April 24, 2008 for Wii in USA. Taking advantage of the motion detection system of the console, this new Mario Kart could be played with a wireless steering wheel sold with the game. We insert the wiimote inside and we use it to control the kart in various circuits, this being rather instinctive, and the movements are well transcribed on the screen. However, it is possible for those who prefer to use a gamepad, to take an old gamecube pad or the Wii classic controler.
As in the great tradition of the Mario Kart series we can found tournaments, versus and battle modes. Online gaming makes its appearance allowing players to challenge themselves via the Internet. For first time in the series, Motorcycles makes their apparition, and changes slightly the sensations and the gameplay compared to the karts.
Initially 12 characters are selectable (including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi and Bowser). 12 other characters can be unlocked by completing certain conditions. The Miis present on the Wii can also be included as playable characters. Regarding the circuits they are 16 at the beginning, divided into 4 cups. 4 other cups will be unlocked through your overhang in the game, finally increasing the number of circuits up to 32. There are altogether 16 completely new circuits and 16 which went from previous Mario kart games.
Still very fun in solo and multiplayer modes (especially as the number of participants by race was increased to 12) with its crazy weapons and its amazing circuits, Mario Kart made his comeback, using effectively the functions of the Wii to our delight.
