Lost planet : Extreme Condition is a 3rd person shooter released on Xbox 360 and PC in 2007, and Playsation 3 in early 2008. It was developed and published by Capcom.
The game takes place on the polar planet E.D.N III colonized by humans decades ago. During the colonization and the research of the energy that enables humans to live in this frigid environment, they woke up a bellicose extraterrestrial insect race, called Akrid. They also learned that the body of Akrids contains the precious thermal energy whose men need to live on E.D.N III. It will then lead to an endless war between humans and Akrids.
The player incarnates Wayne; a man who suffers amnesia since his crew was decimated by a huge Akrid nicknamed "Green Eye". His father died during the confrontation. Found at death?s door by Snow pirates, Wayne decided to join them. His memory returning by bribes, he decided then to find the "green eye" to avenge the death of his father.
Produced by Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man, Lost Planet is a nervous action game plunged in a cold environment. The player moves in snowy and frozen sceneries, and has to eliminate Akrids and snow pirates while maintaining its level of reserves of thermal energy quite high. This is an essential part of gameplay, because in order to stay alive, Wayne must recover heat units on fallen enemies or in tanks. As the level of heat is inexorably declining, we must constantly provide it with thermal energy.
In addition to numerous firearms that can be picked up, Wayne can use the firepower of big robots. These can be driven to move faster, to be more powerful and tougher. However, they are greedy in thermal energy. The gigantic bosses that Wayne will meet on its path always give rise to impressive confrontations.
Its originality, due to its glacial sceneries and the management of heat, coupled with its beautiful realization allow Lost Planet: Extreme condition to be one of the best 3rd person shooters on next generation consoles.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition makes shooting giant bugs every bit as fun as it should be, and even though it ends too quickly, you'll have a blast while it lasts.
