Paper Mario

Paper Mario is a role playing videogame developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. The game was released exclusively on Nintendo 64.

What? A new Mario, What a surprise on N64. He's in paper? How crazy is that? Very, but that doesn't mean it is a bad Mario game, au contraire, Paper Mario is one of the best Mario games ever and shouldn't be missed by any N64 owner.

However, don't expect an original story. Life was calm and peaceful at the beautiful Mushroom Kingdom, so calm that the Princess decided to throw a party. As always, the big mean koopa, also known as Bowser, feels he has to try (again!) to kidnap her. But this time, not only does he kidnap her, but her whole Castle. Bowser has attached the castle to his fortress and has simply flown away. Mario, she needs you, but she's in another castle!

Now the interesting part, the gameplay. As aforementioned, this is not Super Mario but Paper Mario. You'll evolve in a semi 2D/3D environment in which you'll need to find clues and answers to keep advancing. To help you, you'll have many partners that will let you perform certain actions or powers. Nonetheless, only one can be used at the time (even if you can change at any moment). Again, this is a RPG, so don't expect to jump on koopas and see their shell popping out. Here, Mario will fight in turn-based battles by the means of a menu. Your partner will also be at your side to perform special attacks.

Paper Mario might scare by its unique look, but it would be a mistake not to try it. The graphics are beautiful but mostly the game is perfectly balanced between a platformer and a RPG. Some of you might even see a resemblance with Super Mario RPG released on the Super Nintendo.
