Heavenly Sword is an action game developed by Ninja Theory, exclusively for the PS3 and published by SCEI.

While waiting for god of war 3 on the PS3, players can have a first look of what actions games will be like with Heavenly Sword. The game lets you control Nariko, a red haired warrior, who is an incredible fighter. You are part of the clan who protects the mighty Heavenly Sword, a blade so strong that any who uses it will lose its life force.

The game (just like god of war) starts with the ending. You start in the middle of the final battle against Bohan's army (Bohan being a merciless leader who seeks the Heavenly Sword). After fighting thousands of enemies, Nariko falls to the Heavenly Sword, not having the strength required to wield it. After dying, you wake up in an empty clearing and start questioning the swords decision. You decide to recall your whole story, as to say 5 days before the decisive battle. You will learn the story behind the attack and the events that lead to your inevitable death.

Heavenly Sword, like mentioned before, resembles to god of war as battle are very intense and the fighting style is pretty much the same. Nariko uses the Heavenly Sword which can take 3 forms which will have different power and speed (Speed Stance, Range Stance or Power Stance). The game also uses context sensitive actions (symbol of a certain button appears which you'll have to press for the correct action) that adds a lot to the action and brings the game closer to a movie than an actual game. The personal touch of the game comes with the use of the SIXASIS controller that lets you guide thrown projectiles.

Heavenly Sword is an incredibly well done game. The graphics are stupendous, everything is perfectly fluid and the action won't stop until the very end. However the game was criticized for its few flaws. The main one being its length considered to be way too short. Nevertheless Heavenly Sword is THE hack and slash game currently on the market for the PS3.
