Skate is a skateboarding video game developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts.
Finally a real competitor to the Tony Hawk franchise has appeared. You create your skater and go do what your best at in the huge city of San Velona (a mix of San Francisco, Vancouver, and Barcelona). Like the TH series, you evolve in an open world where you free to do as you wish.
The point of the game is simple, be the greatest skater of all times. In order to do so, you'll have to complete many varied challenges. For example, you'll have to complete certain specific tricks while being filmed (also allowing you to create a line of tricks that you can look at any moment). By wining these challenges, your notoriety will grow and sponsors will soon be following you everywhere. This will eventually lead you to the famous competition, the X Games.
A part from these challenges, you'll be able to do all sorts of things in San Velona. First, you'll need to discover all the skating spots and then own them. You'll then be admired by the other skaters of the spot. You'll also need to win jam sessions and death races against other players in order to unlock new clothing, equipment and challenges. Of course, a skating game cannot come out without a great punk music list and this is exactly what offers Skate with more than 40 songs.
Skate is a wonderful experience and the first skateboarding one on next-gen consoles. Offering a multitude of game modes, this game won't leave you alone until you've unlocked everything. Even then, you'll keep skating.
