Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a rail shooter developed by Cavia, Capcom and published by Capcom. The game was released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.
The first original resident evil episode on the Nintendo console is here! But this is not just another episode, it's in a different genre, the rail shooting one and offers one of the most entertaining games on the Wii.
The Umbrella Chronicles holds several scenarios summarizing some of the episodes of the series. In other words, you will constantly change characters going from Rebecca Chambers, to Chris Redfield or even Jill Valentine. There are four scenarios in total in the game occurring during 5 years and in different locations (Raccoon City, Russia, etc.).
As aforementioned, this is a rail shooter and is not played in any way similarly to other Resident Evil games. It's closer to a House of the Dead or a Time Crisis. Levels already have a set path in which you'll shoot enemies, pick up weapons and objects. Like Resident Evil 4, the game uses timed button presses in cut scenes. The Wii remote is of course perfectly adapted for this kind of games, and the Wii Zapper is recommended to enhance the experience.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a great first entry for the series in the rail shooting genre. The entire atmosphere is here and is even scarier sometimes than the main games. A must have for any fan of arcade shooters, of the Resident Evil series, and of videogames in general.
