Final Fantasy is a role playing game developed by Square and published by Nintendo. The game was originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System and then ported on Playstation, Game Boy Advance, Playstation Portable, and others.
The one that started it all. Every legacy has a beginning and this game was the first one of one of the greatest RPG series ever created. Final Fantasy revolutionized the genre forever and installed the bases that almost every game needs today to make a name for itself.
It all starts with the four "Light Warriors", each one responsible for one of the four elemental orbs. These heroes are here to restore the world back in its rightful place after it has been darken by the Four Elemental fiends. They will travel the world to liberate cities and people from the grasp of the evil knight Garland. The world's safety relies on your hands; will you have the courage to fulfill your quest?
If we look at the original Final Fantasy on NES, there is no doubt, already at that time the franchise had amazing graphics and provided a deep and profound gameplay. The over world map which represents the fictional world in which you play is where you'll travel from city to dungeon to every location. Final Fantasy came with many towns in which you would rest, buy armor and weapons and meet new people. Dungeons are often the places to complete quests. This is where you'll encounter random enemies and where you'll switch to the battle screen. In the battle screen, everything is commanded via a menu in which you chose to attack, defend, and use magic or items. It was also one of the first games to introduce level evolution by increasing the capacities and abilities of the characters.
Final Fantasy is thus considered as one of the greatest games ever created. There have been twelve main episodes released in the series and all of them follow the bases of this one. With its deep and developed story, and innovative battle system, this game quickly became a reference for the role playing genre and for the videogame industry in general. But it's true that gaming has evolved since Final Fantasy and playing it today wouldn't make any sense. However, we strongly advise the PSP remake which is up to today's standards.
