Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a first-person shooter video game. It was published by Activision in 2001 for Windows. This game has a single-player mode and a multi-player mode.
Return to Castle is based on an ancient game called Wolfenstein 3D, as a sequel it offers not many similarities compared to its model as its graphics are more evolved and the storyline different.
The multi-player mode became the most popular part of the game, and it was the model of many similar games. It was nominated for an award in 2002 in the category Excellence in Programming.
The game takes place in 1943 in the Nazi-occupied Europe and revolves around the US army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz, who along with another agent, is sent to investigate rumours surrounding one of Heinrich Himmler s personal projects, the SS Paranormal Division.
But the agents are captured before completing their mission and are imprisoned in Castle Wolfenstein.
The SS Paranormal Division is working to create biomechanical zombie super soldiers.
Here are 27 levels available in the game spread across seven missions and offers a good variety of environments. The quality and details of the levels textures and lighting are uniformly excellent.
But between missions there are cutscenes extremely long and not especially interesting.
You will play as the agent Blazkowitz, you will have to try to escape from the castle and
Continue to investigate the activities of the SS Paranormal Division. You will make research on the resurrection of corpses, biotechnology and secret weapons.
You will have to defeat many foes such as the Waffen SS soldiers, the paratroopers, plenty of undead creatures, and horrific supersoldiers (called Ubersoldaten, kind of cyborg half human, half machine).
Your main opponent will be the Oberführer Strasse, also called Deathshead, who is in charge of the Project. He does not believe in paranormal and is convinced that the Nazi are only developing and improving humans with the use of scientific methods.
Wolfenstein is well worth it for the multiplayer game alone, so the fact that you get a solid single-player game in the box can only be considered a bonus.
